    Environmental Protection Institute of Light Industry was approved and established by Ministry of Science and Education in Beijing in 1979. The Institute is mainly engaged in technology development research and technological consultancy in the fields of industrial waste water treatment, environment supervision and testing analysis, and clean production etc. Its scope of business includes waster water treatment (consultancy, design and engineering contraction); assessment of environment influence, ISO14000 consultancy; checking, consultancy and engineering transforming of clean production; membrane separation technique and facilities; treatment engineering for recycled water, softened water, pure water, recycled water of the swimming pools etc; xylitol production technique; disposal and comprehensive utilization of solid wastes and bio-engineering technique development. 

    The Institute has accumulated fertile experiences within its working scope. It has undertaken national programs of tackling key problems and has achieved many results and won lots of scientific and technological awards on national and provincial levels.  Its disposal of waste water covers a range of over 60 types, namely paper making, brewery, tannery, printing and dyeing, machinery, municipal administration to chemical industry. Eight of its developed techniques have been listed as top-grade practical techniques nationwide and key technical popularization achievements by National Science Council, China Environmental Protection Agency and China Light Industry Agency.

    The Institute taken part in bilateral/multi-lateral exchange activities within the field of environment protection, which include Exemplary program of renewable industrial resources of UNEP (United Nations Environment Program) in Shandong, “exemplary activity of clean production in pulping and papermaking ” organized by NIEM (Network for Industrial Environmental Management) of UNEP, Sino-Canadian clean production cooperation program, Sino-Japan technical research and discussion on treatment of waste water from pulping and papermaking and World Bank program etc. In general, these cooperation and exchanges mainly carried out with related organization from Canada, Japan, Britain and England.
